German companies put their faith in “Made for China” – Study

The times when China served merely as an extended workbench for German companies are definitely over: 87 percent of companies active on the Chinese market cite growing local demand as their main growth driver. Correspondingly, 83 percent see the development of new products specifically for the Chinese market as crucial to their success over the next 5 years. This was confirmed by a survey of more than 500 companies, conducted by the German Chamber of Commerce in China together with Staufen AG business consultancy.

Eckhard Gatawis moves to Staufen AG

Since 1st July 2012, Eckhard Gatawis has been directing the Staufen AG’s Business Unit Automotive. The excellent Lean Expert consciously changed from the automotive supply industry to the consultancy business in order to assist more companies with his expertise. With a degree in mechanical engineering, he has – due to his practical knowledge of more than twenty years – experience in the development and roll-out of production systems, the set-up and restructuring of plants and in the design of a global manufacturing footprints. In particular the implementation, communication and training of Lean principles, including the appropriate introduction of KPIs, are among his strengths, as well as international project management skills in multicultural structures. “My goal is to further establish the Business Unit Automotive at Staufen and to drive our customers from Lean Production to a Lean Enterprise, “said Gatawis. “Furthermore, we plan to advance the internationalisation of the business unit according to the needs of the OEMs and suppliers of the automotive industry.”

Murfreesboro Gets Lean

Starting May 2007, MAHLE Filters in Murfreesboro (MFMB) began working with Staufen AG, a consulting firm out of Germany, to implement Lean Manufacturing. The goal is to establish worls-class production systems within MFMB. Initially this project is focusing on carbon canister production in Murfreesboro; however this philosophy will be rolled out plant-wide in 2008.
